 Lesson 9

Equal shares

*Division is repeated subtraction of the same number

*Division is also equal grouping and equal sharing.

*The number which gets divided in called divident

*The number which divides the divident is called divisor

*The result of division is called quotient

*The number which is left undivided after division is called Remainder

*The symbol for division is  ➗

Example

7÷2[7divided by 2]

7     ÷      2      =3,   1➝Reminder

Dividend        Divisor               Quotient

* For every division fact, there is a related multiplication fact

ex-10÷5=2[2X5=10]

                        ↓

                              Related multiplication fact

*A number can be divided in many ways

ex: The number 12

12÷2=6

12 ÷6=2

12÷ 4=3

12÷3=4

12÷12=1

12÷1=12

*When any number is divided by 1, the quotient is the number itself

ex -8÷ 1=8

     10 ÷ 1 = 10

    100 ÷1=100

* If we divided by Zero (o)by any number, the result is zero only.

ex- 0 ÷8=0

Find out the answer

1.20÷5=

2.36÷6=

3.72 ÷9=

4.50÷10=

5.49 ÷7=

6.14 ÷7=

7.24 ÷6=

8.35 ÷5=

9.90 ÷ 9=

10.24 ÷3=

*Two division fact can be written for a given set of numbers

ex-15 ÷ 3=5

      15÷ 5=3

*The same number can be obtained as the quotient in many way.

  7 ÷ 1 = 7

14  ÷ 2=7

21 ÷  3=7

28 ÷  4=7

35 ÷ 5=7

42 ÷  6=7

49÷  7=7

56 ÷ 8=7

63  ÷9=7

70 ÷ 10=7
